Vincent Van Gogh

For this activity we created a piece of artwork inspired by Van Gogh. Our teacher started by giving us background information on Van Gogh and showing us some of his most famous work. For this work of art we glued down pieces of tissue paper and trying to overlap a few pieces. After we finished putting the tissue paper on we had to cover the paper in gloss. After it dried we created a landscape on a different sheet of paper and we glued the landscape on the paper with the tissue paper.

An extension activity would be for kids to read about Van Gogh or another artist and then create this project but instead of a landscape but a picture of a book and then students can write a book report about Vincent.

Dot Day

For this project we created dots for dot day. Our professor read us the book Dot by Peter Reynolds and then asked us to create our own. My dots are fall themed, I used water colors and a white crayon to write on them. An extension activity for this would be creating dots with vocabulary words. Each student could create a dot and write a word from their spelling list on it. They could then decorate it to represent the definition of the word. Then they could be hung up around the room.

Ruby Red Glasses Activity

This is an art project we did in class. We were acting as 1st graders and we created safari images and they are hidden behind warm colors and patterns. We also created "ruby red glasses." These glasses help us see the image behind the patterns. An extension activity for this project would be doing a social studies lesson and you can have a presidents image behind the patterns and the students have to tell you which president it is. You could integrate this project into many content areas.
